Collaborate project that focused on the creation of a new firehouse for the Eastern Iowa Airport. Concept focused on how design can be directly effected by the distinct characteristics of wind upon a site. Materials and construction methods were chosen as a way to benefit from techniques being employed within the local business of agriculture. Furthermore, the project attempts to blur the boundaries of indoor and outdoor spaces by providing an open garage for firetrucks as well as an operable glass system which envelops the silos. Sustainable elements, like geothermal heating of the garage floor, rain water collection and use of the silos as radiant heat source, help further develop the design characteristics of the project.
